Zusammenfassung

Eine Verbindung unter dem Microsoft Betriebssystem Windows zum WLAN "Eduroam" an der Universität Jena herstellen.


Diese Anleitung richtet sich besonders an folgende Zielgruppen: -Nicht zutreffende Zielgruppen bitte löschen-

  • Mitarbeitende
  • Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeitende und Hilfskräfte
  • Einrichtungen und Gremien (z.B. Fachschaftsräte)
  • Arbeitsbereiche / Gruppen (z.B. Projekte)
  • Gäste der Friedrich-Schiller-Universität


Achtung! Ohne die Einbindung des Root-Zertifikates mittels "geteduroam" ist die Verbindung nicht ausreichend gesichert. Es wird dringend empfohlen, den hier beschriebenen Weg zu folgen, da Ihr Endgerät sonst nicht überprüfen kann, ob Ihre Anmeldedaten einem echten Eduroam-Access-Point anvertraut werden. Wird das Sicherheitszertifikat nicht eingebunden, kann Ihr Konto der Universität Jena leicht "gehackt" werden.

Voraussetzungen

  • ein aktives Nutzerkonto der Universität Jena
  • ein lizenziertes und aktuelles Windows 10 auf dem Zielgerät (min. Novemberupdate 2015) oder Windows 11
  • Internetzugang (mobile Daten, HotSpot, etc.)

Einrichten des Eduroam-WLANs mit "geteduroam"

1. Schritt: alte Eduroam-WLAN-Netzwerke löschen

Die Fenstergestaltung ist unter Windows 10 abweichend, inhaltlich jedoch identisch.

Sollte Eduroam auf dem Endgerät bisher niemals eingerichtet worden sein, können Sie direkt mit Schritt 2 fortfahren.

Um auszuschließen, dass alte Eduroam-Profile auf dem Zielgerät existieren, werden alle Eduroam-WLANs gelöscht. Dazu wird "WLAN" im Startmenü eingetippt. Anschließend werden die "WLAN-Einstellungen" geöffnet.

Unter "Bekannte Netzwerke verwalten" ist eine Liste aller bereits eingerichteten WLANs einzusehen.

Durch Klicken auf "Nicht speichern" werden alle eventuell vorhandenen Eduroam-Profile entfernt.

2. Schritt: geteduroam herunterladen und installieren

Für einen sicheren Verbindungsaufbau sind einige Einstellungen sowie die Installation eines Sicherheitszertifikats notwendig. Letzteres stellt sicher, dass Ihr Endgerät nicht jedem (böswilligen) Access-Point vertraut und Ihre Anmeldedaten weitergibt.

Die Installation des Zertifikates sowie das Setzen der Einstellungen müssen nicht mühsam per Hand durchgeführt werden. Dafür gibt es unter https://geteduroam.app/ die passende App.

Drücken Sie auf der Webseite auf den "Windows"-Button. Für die meisten Geräte ist "IntelAMD" auszuwählen. Wenige Tablets mit "Windows for ARM" benötigen die Option "ARM".

Der Download startet.

Im Anschluss können Sie die Datei öffnen.

 Sollten Sie in der Vergangenheit bereits die "Eduroam-App" installiert haben, könnte solch ein Fenster auftauchen. Wählen Sie hier einfach "Ja" aus.

3. Schritt: Eduroam-Verbindung mit URZ-Login (Universitätsrechenzentrum) herstellen

Über "Connect to eduroam" erscheint die Institutionsauswahl.

Hier wird die Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena angegeben und auf "Weiter" geklickt.

Klicken Sie erneut auf "Weiter".

Nun müssen Sie die beiden Sicherheitszertifikate installieren. Klicken Sie hierfür in beiden Zeilen auf "Installieren".

Es öffnet sich ein neues Fenster mit einer Sicherheitswarnung. Klicken Sie hier auf "Ja".

Haben Sie beide Sicherheitszertifikate installiert, klicken Sie auf "Weiter".

Im Feld "Benutzername" ist das URZ-Login mit direkt angehangenen "@uni-jena.de" einzugeben, bspw. [email protected] (nicht die E-Mail-Adresse), bei "Passwort" das dazugehörige Passwort.

Mit einem Klick auf "Verbinden" wird das Eduroam-Profil inkl. Sicherheitszertifikat installiert.

Wenn die Anmeldedaten stimmen, verbindet sich das Gerät automatisch mit einem in Reichweite befindlichen Eduroam-Zugangspunkt und die Einrichtung ist mit "Close" abgeschlossen.

  • Guests of the University of Jena


Attention. Without the integration of the root certificate using "geteduroam", the connection is not sufficiently secured. It is strongly recommended to follow this guide, otherwise your end device will not be able to verify that your device connects to a trusted access point. Without including the certificate, there is a high risk of hacking.

Requirements

  • an activated user account of the University of Jena
  • a current licensed Windows 10 (at least Nov 2015 Update) or Windows 11
  • internet connection (cellular data/ mobile data, HotSpot, ...)

Setup Eduroam WiFi via "geteduroam"

1. Step: delete old Eduroam WLAN networks

The window design is different on Windows 10, but the content is similar.

If Eduroam has never been set up on the device, skip to step 2.

To avoid complications during installation, all old profiles must be removed. To do this, type "Wi-Fi" in the Start menu. The "Wi-Fi settings" are then opened.

A list of all Wi-Fi profiles that have already been set up can be viewed by clicking on "Manage known networks".

Remove all possible existing Eduroam profiles by clicking on "Forget".

2. Step: GET "geteduroam" download and setup

A few settings and the installation of a security certificate are necessary for a secure connection setup. The latter ensures that your device does not simply trust any (malicious) access point and pass on your login data.

The installation of the certificate as well as the configuration do not have to be done manually. For this purpose there is the geteduroam-app at https://geteduroam.app/.

Click on the “Windows” button on the website. “IntelAMD” must be selected for most devices. A few tablets with “Windows for ARM” require the “ARM” option.

The download starts.

After that the file will be opened.

 If you already have installed the “Eduroam app” in the past, such a window may appear. Simply select “Yes” here.

3. Schritt: Install secure institution-specific Eduroam profile with "geteduroam" using your URZ-Credentials

The institution selection appears via "Connect to eduroam".

Here, the Friedrich Schiller University Jena is specified and "Next" is clicked.

With a click on "Next" the login request appears.

You must now install the two security certificates. To do this, click on “Install” in both lines.

A new window opens with a security warning. Click on “Yes” here.

Once you have installed both security certificates, click on “Next”.

In the field "Username" enter the URZ login with "@uni-jena.de" directly attached, e.g. [email protected] (not the e-mail address), in the field "Password" enter the corresponding password. 

Click on "Connect" to install the Eduroam profile incl. security certificate.

If the credentials are correct, the device automatically connects to an Eduroam access point within range and the setup is complete with "Close".
